Thousands flock to county town for Heart of Castlebar street festival

An estimated 10,000 people descended on Castlebar for day three of the inaugural Heart of Castlebar - Féile Sráide ‘Croí Chaisleán an Bharraigh’ last Saturday. The three-day event provided a massive economic boost to the county town where shoppers were told by Taoiseach Enda Kenny to support their local businesses.

Castlebar cycling club gears up for charity event

Castlebar Cycling Club is gearing up for its two day charity sponsored cycle, starting today, Friday September 17, through to tomorrow Saturday September 18, in support of Western Care Association services throughout Mayo.

Cycling for all events lined up around the county

This week Western Lakes Cycling Club launched its three main events of the year in Inches Bar, Ballinrobe. Over the past five years these events have grown from strength to strength, and Western Lakes CC hopes that this year will be no different. The three events are the Polkadot leisure cycle challenge which will be held on July 18, the Ballinrobe two day event on August 7 and 8, and the Mayo Sports Partnership cycle to the castle on September 12 which will be part of the Mayo cycle for fun series. Castlebar cycling club moves into gear for Rás

May 22 will see the FBD Insurance Rás finish its sixth stage on the streets of Castlebar. A team from Castlebar Cycling Club will be among the pack chasing the yellow jersey for the first time. The five strong team from the club will be following in the footsteps of the like of Seamus Neary, who raced in the Rás over 40 years ago, and Kevin Dunleavy and Billy Burke who competed in the 1980s.

Castlebar Chamber welcomes FBD Insurance Rás to town

Castlebar Chamber of Commerce IS delighted to welcome the FBD Insurance Rás to the town on May 22 where there will be a stage finish. The sixth stage of Ireland's premier cycling event will finish in Castlebar and local businesses and sporting enthusiasts are encouraged to come out and give the competitors a hearty Castlebar welcome.
